Are you facing difficulties or challenges that you either don’t understand or that you feel powerless to do something about?

Are there specific internal issues that you can identify that you want to resolve, like anxiety, or depression, or problems in relationship - whether that’s with others, or with yourself?

Do you find that you are self-critical, self-doubting, unable to respond to the events of your life with freedom, and instead trapped in patterns you cannot seem to overcome on your own?

Do you want to be free of such self-defeating patterns, and be the person you were put here on this earth to be?

Allowing yourself the resource of therapy equates to valuing yourself, but it’s a hard, oftentimes scary thing to do. It takes courage to reach out for help.

Let’s work together to achieve something good for you. I’ll take an active stance and be as real with you as I can, and I’ll invite you to do the same, so that together we can understand what is causing the difficulties you are facing, and best equip you to overcome them.

My approach revolves around a unique modality known as ISTDP (Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy) and is based on the understanding that the hurts we experience cause wounds within us, wounds which result in us having hidden, painful, thoughts and feelings that we are generally taught to avoid - which over time leads us to disconnect from our own internal experience. My belief is that this disconnection is what causes the problems we typically seek therapy for, and my hope is to explore with you whether there might be another way to deal with your problems, one that might leave you able to respond to what comes up in your life with a more adaptive, resilient, and compassionate sense of your own self.

Deanna’s journey to becoming a counsellor began with her long-standing career in emergency services. With over 20 years of providing front-line support to emergency service personnel and individuals in crisis, Deanna effectively identifies and communicates subtle connections between problems. She wanted to expand on that ability in a way that could benefit others long term, which led her to this profession.

Deanna’s therapeutic approach is rooted in integrative therapy, meaning she draws from various modalities to create a healing framework unique to the client’s needs. She believes it is her role to uphold a client’s right to self-determination while helping them discover the thoughts and experiences that keep them in a fixed state of dis-ease. Deanna acknowledges it takes immense courage for clients to be curious about what is troubling them, and she engages each session with gratitude and genuine care. Simply, she believes that people begin to heal when they are heard.

Deanna graduated from the University of Northern British Columbia in 2020 with a degree in Social Work. That same year she began her studies in the Master of Social Work program and anticipates completion in April of 2025. Deanna has been a registered social worker since 2022 and specializes in working with adult individuals encountering trauma, relationship issues, and different types of presenting concerns for each.

Deanna is affiliated and in good standing with these entities:

British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW; RSW #15691)

British Columbia Association of Social Workers (BCASW)

What I do: Help you navigate and evolve from where you are to where you want to be. I am here to listen to you without judgement, so you feel fully heard. To question you with curiosity and care so you feel understood. To hold space for you compassionately, so you feel seen and appreciated for who you are and for the person you want to be.

What I believe: We can live our best meaningful life mindfully, by experiencing inner peace, joyful contentment and purpose each day. I believe in building better habits, communicating with clarity, placing healthy boundaries for a more successful and happy life.

Who I am: A well rounded holistic coach and practitioner, shining the light on your path ahead to a more meaningful, authentic, and abundant life. I live what I teach daily, through the practice of mindfulness, yoga, breathwork, weight training, nature walks, clean eating, and rituals such as journaling, and creative outlets. I love and respect my husband of 17 years, and I am proud of my family and the community I live amongst.

My story: Growing up in South of India, yoga and ayurveda was part of our daily life. I was introduced to meditation at age eleven. Since then yoga, daily meditation, writing, reading and learning, painting, pottery and cooking has been part of my life journey. Moving from diverse countries to a different continent and living amongst rich cultures has given me a well-versed background in learning, adapting and excelling through challenges and changes. I have a growth mindset and a positive outlook on life.

In 2020 as the world went through a huge shift so did my interest and passion to be of greater service. I became a trained Life Coach, and I have had the honor of coaching clients navigate from where they currently are to where they see their future selves.

Teaching meditation, trauma informed yoga, rooted in physio based, pain-care, and somatic modalities for over a decade on-line and in-person to individuals and groups has given me a deeper understanding to healing and growth. My life is a gift that I get to unwrap and fall in love with daily, and I hope that with my guidance you too will love the life you get to envision, commit to, and enjoy living it daily.

As a child and adolescent, I often found myself listening to and supporting my peers. To this day, I believe that it is an immense honour to be entrusted with the concerns, struggles, and pains of others, and to provide a safe and affirming space to facilitate healing. To me, it is not only an incredible privilege to walk alongside clients but a dream come true.

I believe humans are intrinsically worthy, deserving of full inclusion and participation, beautifully diverse, and built to belong. I believe that we are intricate beings who are impacted by our pasts, our current environments, and overarching systemic issues. I believe that we are incredibly resilient and carry more wisdom than we might realize.

As your counsellor, I will seek to foster our therapeutic connection with compassion, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. It is my desire to provide warmth and non-judgment that can support your journey into further accepting yourself, believing in the power of connection, and unlocking your inner wisdom and ability to heal. I will seek to listen and understand, honour and affirm, collaborate towards your goals, integrate techniques and tools to suit your needs, and empower you to take the reins on your healing journey.

Outside of the counselling office, I enjoy being in nature, running, biking, hiking, and yoga.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC ).

I will never forget my first experience of really being listened to and heard.  It was such a powerful experience that I wanted to be a part of this for others.  Having a listening person can be really beneficial for working through life’s problems and accessing your inner wisdom.

As a therapist it is important for me to be a compassionate and empathetic listener.  I provide an in-depth understanding of what is being conveyed to me.  I afford a sounding board for people to hear their thoughts in a new way and with guidance they begin to reframe the problem in a more positive and strength-based way.  In partnership I help people to make meaning out of their difficult experiences and have self-compassion while navigating through life.

I have worked in the counselling field for over 20 years and have a special interest in supporting people with anxiety, trauma, depression, grief and parenting.  During this time, I have worked in a number of settings including school districts working with children and youth, Elizabeth Fry Society working with teen mothers, Youth Center working with marginalized, unhoused youth, and private practice.   I am trained in a variety of techniques that can be tailored to create a unique mental health structure for healing. Life throws us many challenges and at times it can be difficult to navigate them on your own.  I work collaboratively with clients, to set goals for you to create the changes they strive for and desire in their life.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my dogs, curling up with a good book, knitting, hiking, kayaking, listening to music and life long learning.

I graduated from UNBC and hold a Master of Education degree in Counselling. I am a member in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).

As a compassionate and dedicated mental health counsellor, I am committed to supporting individuals through life’s challenges by providing a judgement free space to work towards your goals. I use an integrated and client-centered approach, and tailor techniques and skills from numerous modalities to suit your needs. I believe that supporting clients is most effective through building trust and a strong relationship, and I take care to listen and learn from you. I use curiousity and acceptance to welcome each client’s unique background into the counselling relationship, and am culturally sensitive. I aim to empower individuals to better understand themselves, develop skills and techniques to cope with challenges, and ultimately lead more fulfilling lives.

I am excited to be part of the team at South Okanagan Counselling. When I started my social work undergrad, and while working in various helping fields since, I have been drawn to help people through providing caring, collaborative, client-focused therapy.

I have been a practicing therapist since opening and operating a private practice in Estevan, SK in 2015, where I worked with individuals, couples, and families. In 2018, I moved to the Okanagan to work as a mental health and substance use counsellor.

I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with couples again. I understand that good relationships take work and that there are significant stresses affecting our lives, especially during these times. In my work with couples, I emphasize the importance of noticing, understanding, and accepting emotions while maintaining a safe space for each person I see.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, practicing yoga, playing the piano, reading, and drinking coffee.

I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from Thompson Rivers University. I graduated from Briercrest Seminary in 2017 and hold a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a member in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).

I have been a counsellor and family therapist for over 30 years, during that time I have worked with a rich diversity of people. Counselling and family therapy is a work that I love. I have found that people carry with them, in their own lives and networks, the strengths, the relationships, and the gifts that enable them to move through the most challenging of situations. I have found that I am able to help people find the possibilities that they need to cope with life’s various challenges.

My work has had many unique focuses through the years, including: work with children and youth, family therapy, addictions, working with individuals and families where there is a mental health concern, working with individuals and families where there are legal and criminal matters pressing upon them, and working with a wide diversity of individuals and communities. For almost thirty years I worked with one particular First Nation – my time with this and other indigenous communities has had a profound influence on how I work with all people.

I also am a teacher in a Master of Counselling program. Because of this I am conversant in a wide variety of approaches to helping people.

As your counsellor, my goal is to foster a sense of security and trust by bringing empathy, a calm presence, and an open heart to each session. I hope to create a safe space in which you feel comfortable unpacking your thoughts and emotions. Additionally, I will tailor our time together to fit your needs, using techniques that will work best for you and providing coping strategies so that you can feel empowered to take charge and achieve your goals.

I have extensive experience working with children through my role as a social and emotional learning teacher and am eager to work with adult individuals as well. Much like when working with adults, my hope when working with children is to help them to feel heard, feel supported, and feel empowered to reach their goals.

My passions other than counselling include playing soccer, volleyball, and rugby, along with painting at the beach.

I am currently in my final year of the Master’s of Education in School Counselling program at City University.

I treasure the privilege of getting to know someone’s journey and witnessing the ways they come to heal, grow and deepen into who they are. My role as a counsellor is to support, listen and encourage you. I hope to provide a safe harbour in whatever waters you are navigating in your life by being an anchoring and steady presence.

Are you wondering about how to navigate feelings of loss, loneliness or overwhelm? Do you feel resentment in your relationships and wonder how to shift this? In your relationship with yourself, do you feel like you should ‘be better,’ or be ‘doing more’ in your life? I accompany those going through life transitions, searching for meaning, experiencing grief, depression, anxiety, including climate anxiety, religious trauma, chronic pain, burn out or the impacts of systemic oppression.

I am a middle-aged, cis-gender woman, parent and settler in the Syilx territory – a region where I have spent much of my life. I have been deeply shaped by social movements for justice and liberation in my personal and professional life. As such, I am deeply committed to anti-oppressive values and deepening my own understandings of myself and each person’s unique experiences and worldviews.

Outside work I enjoy spending time with my family, biking, gardening and reading. I dedicate myself to practices, such as walking, prayer and making art, to feel spiritually grounded and fully available to be present for others.

I draw on different therapeutic modalities such as existential, feminist, solution focused, mindfulness and emotion-focused therapy.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University (2024) and an MA in Social Justice Education (OISE) from the University of Toronto (2012). I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC ).

Meet Christy McLeod! Having dedicated her whole adult life to the field of Psychology, Christy brings to the counselling room a unique ability to tailor sessions to who you are and what you need. She helps counsel people to overcome fears, communicate better in relationships, respond to challenges with greater ease, and more. She considers herself a practical therapist, for inclusive of what you’re thinking, in session you will consider body, mind and community, recognizing all the pieces connect.

Christy has spent most of her research on learning how to bring in Narrative Therapy, EMDR and Person-Centred approaches into the counselling room. What this means is that she will work to ensure you have a safe and supportive place to come and allow your body to gently heal, as you reach towards the life you want to be living, rather than the one you currently may feel stuck in.

As connection is a key component to the counselling process, she wants you to feel safe in her presence and gets excited to watch as the underlying stories that may fill your mind with dread or doubt, slowly get quieter and quieter, and the strong, life-filled person you were designed to be, comes to life.

In Christy’s personal life she is an avid athlete, training for triathlons. As such, she is also currently growing her skillset to be able to walk alongside athletes and help increase their performance mindset. Stay tuned.

My passion for assisting others as a counsellor has been cultivated from both my personal experiences of navigating life’s challenges, as well as my professional experience as a Learning Resource Teacher over the past two decades, journeying with many neurodiverse learners and their families. I have a particular interest in working with those who have experienced loss, are adjusting to change and are navigating regulation or relational challenges. I have a range of ways to support connection and growth, but you will find I lean toward experiential modalities where mind-body connection is explored and harnessed to support the client’s desired change.

When working with clients, my goal is to empower them to connect with their inner wisdom using skill development, transforming limiting beliefs, and imparting hope that change is possible. My approach is founded on attentive listening, openness, and empathy, with the aim to support clients to come into realignment and welcome all parts of themselves.

I hold a Masters of Education in Special Education from UBC and I am thrilled to now be a practicing Intern in the final stages of completing my three year Masters of Counselling with City University of Seattle. I am registered as a student member of BCACC.

Since childhood I have been an encouraging and empathetic helper to those around me, therefore I felt called to the counselling field from a young age. I am honoured that my clients allow me to do this meaningful and fulfilling work.

I have over 12 years experience as a therapist and have spent the past 20 years working as a professional helper in the psychology and social work fields. I have a special interest in supporting people with anxiety, trauma, and stress-related concerns. I use an integrated mind-body approach that is trauma-informed and supports the nervous system to function optimally as we work through the challenges of being human. Depending on my client’s needs, this can involve shifting perceptions, making meaning of experiences, changing behaviours and/or working towards compassionate acceptance what is outside one’s control.

It has been my experience that all people have the inner wisdom to heal and grow, and that working in partnership with a counsellor can help tap into these resources. I feel my role is to help facilitate healing by holding a safe and supportive space for your whole self to emerge and process what it needs to.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, hanging out with my two cats, hiking, kayaking, listening to music and continuing my education.

I graduated from Adler University - Vancouver in 2009 and hold a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology. I am a member in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
